Prince William and KaTea Tea Bags

Prince William and KaTea Tea Bags

You just have to love a Royal Wedding. Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to tie the knot on April 29. They will put the faces of the happily engaged couple on anything. Check out these Prince William and KaTea Tea Bags.

Their arms rest on the edge of the cup and are decorated with images of the Prince and Princess-to-be. I'm not sure what kind of tea it is, but a fun novelty item. They would be perfect as a gift for any royal watcher.

Deckan Tea

Over the weekend my husband and I went to a local farmer's market and were delighted to see a local tea company there.  They are called Deckan Tea and they are based in Southfield, Michigan. They had a number of loose teas for sale as well some pyramid tea bags in canisters.

I love getting the chance to sample new teas, especially blends. They had a number of their teas in glass jars in order to sniff them. It was a nice warm morning and they had their Mango Beach Organic black tea available as an iced tea. It was very refreshing.

My husband is a huge fan of black tea, so we picked up a package of their Organic Ginger Peach Clove black tea to bring home. We brewed some right away as an iced tea and is was very good. This tea also has a touch of cinnamon in it, rounding off the flavors nicely.

Next time I want to get a package of their Green Apple Organic and Rooibos Chocolate Organic to try and review. If you are looking for a Michigan based tea company, then definitely check out Deckan Tea. They also offer coffee as well. They have a store location at Great Lakes Crossing Mall in Auburn Hills and ship all over the world.

A Use For Your Old Tea Bags

Tea WreathI came across this great craft project from my friend Heather on her Dollar Store Crafts site. It is a Tea Wreath and was designed by the creative gals over at Kojo Designs. If your tea collection is anything like mine, you probably have a bunch of tea bags that you just don't know what to do with.

Now you can display them with style with this very pretty tea wreath project. It takes two pieces of cardboard, some wrapping or scrapbook paper, some clothes pins, a ribbon to hang it with, and a hot glue gun.

I love how pretty it looks and that it gives a use for all those tea bags laying loose in my tea cabinet. Check out all the instruction for making the tea wreath over at Kojo Designs.

How to Make Iced Loose Tea

The weather has been so nice in Michigan for the last few days and iced tea has been a great way to get in my daily tea fix. I prefer to make mine with loose leaf tea, which means an extra step from using tea bags. It is definitely worth it and so very easy. I made a little video to show you how to make iced loose tea:

Basically I steep the tea in my tea pot first without an infuser basket and then I pour the tea over a strainer into a pitcher. Today I made a blend of Teavana's Sweet Amore and Plum Harvest. Unfortunately they are no longer making Plum Harvest, so I am going to have to substitute with something else when I use the last of mine. Sweet Fruit Garden Herbal Tea may work.

Children’s Tea Set

Children's Tea SetMy daughter received this very cute Children's Tea Set for her birthday last week. It is made by Schylling and is a porcelain tea set that she can really use.  Just like Fiestaware, it is brightly colored.

It is perfect for brewing her own tea. She can either put a tea bag or two inside along with hot water or a loose tea blend and then pour over a strainer. It is also great for juice, water or lemonade too. Whatever her tea party guests prefer.

Haba Tea BagsHere is her little table set to enjoy tea and cookies with her dolls. The cookie set is from Melissa and Doug and those are Haba tea bags. Perfect for a pretend tea party. The plates are from Ikea.

If you are looking for a children's tea set, then definitely consider this one. We love it. It is available from Amazon. They have also been very reliable and offer fast shipping.

P.S. Here is a close up shot that my daughter took and really wanted to share with you all. Enjoy!

Loose Teas

loose teasWhile there are some tea bags in our tea cabinet, the majority is loose teas.  I find that they have a far superior flavor to tea made from a teabag.  We have everything from a gundpowder green tea flavored with almond slices to a rooibos with red currants and blue mallow blossoms.

Loose teas can be either single origin teas that are just purely tea leaves.  Other times they are blends of various teas, flowers, fruits, or berries.  Brewing tea loose in a tea pot or inside of an infuser is a great way to let the leaves expand and uncurl in the water.  You want to give the essential oils a chance to impart as much flavor to the water as possible.

While I have tried some poor quality loose teas, for the most part the teas that I sampled are all very good quality.  Most tea merchants choose the finest quality tea leaves.

What do you look for when choosing a tea?  What are some of your favorite loose teas?  It is definitely all based on personal preference.  My husband has not found a rooibos tea that he likes and while I like most teas, I do not like to drink chai tea iced.  We would love to know what you like and dislike.

Le Palais Gourmet is Now American Tea Room

American Tea Room Your Ultimate Tea ResourceLe Palais Gourmet has been a fixture in Beverly Hills for years.  Recently they have undergone a renovation of sorts, changing their name to better reflect their company.  They are now known as American Tea Room.  There were several reasons for the switch, including an easier name for their customers to remember.  It does not signal a change in their really great tea selection though.

Recently I received some tea samples and they are definitely my new favorite source of loose leaf tea.  The three varieties in our tea cabinet are Immortal Green, Tangier, and St. Tropez.

Immortal Green is a green tea blended with peach.  I have always loved the pairing of tea with peach and this is a really delightful one.  The green tea is a very high quality, the leave unfurl nicely in the water, and the tea is wonderful to drink.

Tangier is a very special black tea blend.  It is Ceylon black tea leaves with saffron and and apricot petals.  Very exquisite.  I could drink this tea all day long, either as a hot tea or an iced tea.

I am a big fan of Rooibos tea.  It is naturally caffeine free, so it is perfect to share with my daughter or the times when I do not want to be kept up late.  St. Tropez is a green Rooibos with red currants, blue mallow blossoms, and a hint of wild berries.  It is a nice fruity tea.  I've tried it hot, but think it would also make a really great iced tea.  I highly recommend this one.

American Tea Room is a great choice for loose leaf tea, tea pots, and other tea accessories.  They even have a selection of teas in pyramid shaped tea bags, perfect when you are on the go.  As they change over from Le Palais Gourmet, they are also having a sale on their teas.  Check them out today and buy some for your tea cabinet.
