Spotted: Breville One-Touch Tea Maker

Breville One Touch Tea MakerThe hottest new item in the tea world is the Breville One-Touch Tea Maker. I must admit, when I first heard about it, I instantly wanted one. And it looks like so does everyone else. It is a hard item to come by, with many stores sold out or down to their last few instock ones.

While out and about this weekend I got to see one in person and it is pretty nice. The tea kettle part is pretty hefty and is a combo of glass, plastic, and stainless steel.

If you are looking for the best way to brew loose tea this is it. You can set it for Black, White, Green, Herbal, Oolong and a custom setting. It would be absolutely perfect for getting ready in the evening before bed and then walking up to a perfect cup of tea.

It works by heating the water in the bottom to the right temperature, then drops the steeping basket into the water. The basket is then lifted back out out of the water after a specific time. You can set it to keep the tea warm for up to 60 minutes after brewing.

The only drawback I can see to this tea kettle is the cleaning. You can not immerse the kettle itself, so you must wash the interior carefully. The steeping basket comes completely out though. The dropping mechanism appears to work with a magnet, so it pops right out.

I love the details on this. The kettle has a second guard over the pour spout to catch any loose tea that may have escaped the steeping basket. The stores that may have this in stock include Amazon and the American Tea Room. Definitely check out the Breville One-Touch Tea Maker. Super cool tea kettle!

Decaf Loose Tea

Decaf Loose TeaDecaf Loose Tea is a great choice when you are looking for a caffeine free tea or loose tea for children. Some of my favorite ones are Rooibos tea blends. There are also a large number of herbal varieties. Let's talk about my favorite ones.

  • American Tea Room St. Tropez - This is a green rooibos that is blended with red currants, rose petals, and blue mallow blossoms. This is a great tea that is great hot or iced.
  • Teavana Rooibos Peach Bloom Tea - This is a blend of green and red rooibos that also includes peach and safflower.  I also love to blend it with their Strawberry Kiwi Herbal Tea.
  • Chamomille Tea - When ever I want to relax or want a good night's sleep, then I reach for the Chamomille tea in the cabinet. Typically made from the flower blossoms, this sweet tea is known for its calming properties.
  • Teavana Strawberry Lemonade Herbal Tea - With summer coming, thoughts are turning to iced tea. This is a great tea blend for that and your kids will love it.

Mother’s Day Tea Gifts

Mother's Day Tea GiftsMother's Day is about 2 weeks away. Is your shopping done yet? No? How about a Mother's Day Tea Gift then? Here a few gifts that your Mother will absolutely love to receive.

  • Signature White Gift Set - This beautiful tea set comes with a tea pot, two tea cups, three types of American Tea Room teas (including some of my favorites), and three rock candy sugar swizzlers. It comes wrapped in white linen and a navy satin ribbon. The teas include Martinique, Brioche, and Immortal Green.
  • Tea Pot - I really think you can never have too many tea pots, especially when getting a style or design that you do not have already. Does Mom have a Cast Iron tea pot yet? These are long lasting, traditional Japanese tea pots that are known for their durability and heat retention.
  • Flowering Tea - Instead of flowers, get your Mom these blooms instead. These hand tied teas unfurl to reveal a beautiful tea blossom. You definitely want to steep these in clear glass so that you can watch it happen. Plus it comes in a delightfully wrapped gift box.

Whatever Mother's Day Tea Gift you decide on, she is sure to love the thought and care you placed into picking it out. You can not go wrong with any of the the items above or any of the fine teas available from the American Tea Room.

How to Brew Loose Green Tea Video

Dreaming About Teapots

On this cold and rainy Saturday, after a blissful few days of warm weather and sunshine, my thought turn to teapots. Full of beauty, but also a thing of function. The perfect place to allow tea leaves to steep, creating that wonderful cup of tea that warms the body and soul.

Perhaps a strong and sturdy American Tea Room Signature Black Teapot?

Or a Cast Iron Teapot covered in cherry blossoms to help us look forward to Spring?

This glass teapot is a great way to see the tea as it steeps or to enjoy a flowering tea as it unfolds.

How about Tea for One in this practical teapot?

Yes, I am dreaming of Teapots. Will you join me? Which one is your favorite?

Green Tea & Weight Loss

For the last several years, the buzz on the weight loss scene has been that drinking Green Tea can help you lose weight.  Is there any truth to this or is it just another hyped up weight loss claim?  I decided to do some investigating and share what I found.

The component in green tea that is believed to help with fat loss is called a catechin.  A study that was published in the Journal of Nutrition compared two groups of people.  One was given a daily beverage containing catechins and the other group got one without.  Both drinks had the same amount of caffeine.  They were also given an exercise regimen to follow.  They were studied for 12 weeks and at the end of the study it was found that the group that consumed the green tea catechins lost more abdominal fat than the other group.

While there are a large number of supplements that claim to contain green tea extracts, I am much more interested in drinking green tea itself.  There are so many good options out there from American Tea Room's Immortal Green to Teavana's Dragonwell.  Please let me know if you need any recommendations or help finding something specific.  Order some Green Tea today, your body will thank you.

How is Matcha Powder Made?

You may know matcha as the powdery green tea that is blended with hot water in order to make a refreshing & healthy cup of tea.  Have you ever wondered how matcha powder is made?  Well I did so I set out to do some research in order to find out.

Tea leaves that are going to become matcha powder must be specially prepared while they are still growing on the tea bush.  A few weeks before they are harvested they are covered so that they do not receive any sunlight.  This prevents the sun from reaching the leaves, which slows down the growth and makes the leaves darker and sweeter.

After the tea leaves are picked they are laid out flat to dry.  This causes the leaves to crumble. The stems and veins are removed and then the leaves are stone ground to create matcha powder.  This powder is then whisked into hot water to make matcha tea. I also enjoy matcha lattes where you add milk and sweetener.

Here is a great video on how to make Matcha:

A great source of Matcha is American Tea Room. They have everything that you will need to start preparing Matcha tea at home. Order some today.
