Chartreuse Tea Review

Chartreuse TeaLast weekend I visited Greenfield Village with my family. It is one of our favorite places to visit and we go often. They were holding a special Fall Flavors event along with a Farmer's Market. One of the vendors in the market was Chartreuse Tea. They are a made in Michigan company that features organic, caffeine free herbal teas.

I was first introduced to their teas while shopping at Whole Foods. The bright, chartreuse tea tin caught my eye. For an end of the year teacher's gift, I gave my daughter's two teachers a tin of the Peaceful Bliss blend. Highly appropriate I thought.

Anyway the Chartreuse Table at the Farmer's Market was a loose leaf tea drinker's dream. They had about 10 of their teas ready for sampling. They were all so good. I got to try Hibiscus Quench, Pride of Africa, Citrus Sunrise, and Mountain Green.

Hibiscus Quench

Check out the rosebuds!

I brought home three of their teas. Hibiscus Quench is made with organic hibiscus, organic rosehips, organic lemongrass, organic orange peel, organic spearmint, organic lavender, organic red rose petals, and organic stevia.

Hibiscus Quench Steeped

I love the rich color.

Mountain Green is made with organic green rooibos (my preference over red rooibos), organic orange peel, and organic lemon myrtle.

They also gave me Solomon's Seal, which I have not tried yet. It is Solomon's Seal Root and organic brown rice. I have not tried it yet, but I wonder if it is like genmaicha tea.

I highly recommend you try their teas, especially if you are looking for a caffeine free, herbal tea that is also organic too. You can find their tea at Whole Foods stores in Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, and Wisconsin and online at Amazon.com.

Bodum Double Walled Tea Cups

Bodum Double Walled Tea CupI love double walled tea cups. Generally they don't have a handle and I love the smoothness and ability to hold the cup from any side.  Some of the best known are these Bodum double walled tea cups.

The double wall helps to insulate your hand from the heat of the liquid inside. And it also gives the tea a neat appearance as it appears suspended in thin air. They are made from borosilicate-glass to withstand both hot and cold liquids.

You can get just the Bodum tea cup or they also make an infuser tea cup that has a lid and steeping basket to make a single cup of loose tea. After steeping the lid holds the steeping basket to contain any liquid when the tea leaves drain. This version comes in black, green, orange, and red. Pretty and functional too!

There is also a handled version of this tea cup too, in case you prefer one.

Is Rooibos Tea Decaf?

Is Rooibos Tea DecafRecently I was asked is Rooibos Tea decaf? For which the answer is a resounding yes! It contains no caffeine naturally and is a great option for those who can not tolerate it.

I usually start my day out with a green tea with caffeine, but by the time the afternoon rolls around I know that it is time for me to switch to a caffeine free or decaf tea or I will be up all night long. There are many reasons for staying away from caffeine and that is mine. Plus my daughter loves it and while she does drink tea with caffeine from time to time, caffeine free is mostly what she drinks.

I am a huge fan of Rooibos blends, especially those with fruit. I really enjoy the ones from Teavana and the American Tea Room. From Teavana I recommend their Tropica Rooibos Tea and Chai Rooibos Tea. From the American Tea Room I recommend their Martinique Green Rooibos Tropical Blend (it is now organic!) and Saint Tropez Green Rooibos Berry.

Receive free shipping on any order over $50 from Teavana and any order over $60 from American Tea Room. Enjoy the decaf Rooibos.

Cast Iron Teapots on Ebay

Having a cast iron teapot is something that many tea drinkers would love to have. The price tag is often a hindrance to getting one though. Even knowing the benefits for getting one including their longevity and ability to retain heat may not outweigh the initial cost.

Enter eBay. There are quite of few of these up for auction, including new ones that have never been used. Check them out:

Why is There Popcorn in my Genmaicha Tea?

Genmaicha TeaRecently I had the pleasure of trying my first Genmaicha tea. It was a bit unusual when I first opened up the package as it contains green tea leaves along with roasted brown rice. I wasn't too sure of it at first. And then I noticed the white pieces in it and thought 'why is there popcorn in my genmaicha tea?'

To find out the answer you have to know a bit of the history of this tea. It was originally a tea that was popular amongst peasants in Japan. They added the brown rice as a filler to reduce the amount of green tea leaves needed. In the process of roasting the brown rice, some of it pops like popcorn. It all gets added to the green tea leaves so that is why there is popcorn in genmaicha tea.

The result is a nutty and sweet green tea. Now it is enjoyed by everyone in society. I really enjoy it and highly recommend everyone who loves loose green tea to give it a try. Here a a few varieties to try:
